General Information.

Physical Geography

Vietnam is an ‘S’ shaped country. A long, narrow coastal plain links the Red River delta in the north and Mekong River delta in the south. It is 1,650 kilometres from north to south but is only 50 kilometres across at its narrowest point. The total area is 329,560 square kilometres. The mountain range stretching the length of the country covers about two-thirds of the country. The highest peak in Vietnam is Fan-si-Pan, 3143 metres, in the extreme north.

The population is now about 87 billion people.

Climate

Due to variation in latitude and topography, climatic conditions in Vietnam vary widely. The major regions are the tropical, southern lowlands, the wet, temperate central highlands and the cool mountainous northern area.There are four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. But they are also known as two main seasons: Sunny Season and Rainy Season.

Hanoi

Hanoi, estimated population 3.398.889 (2007), is the capital of Vietnam. From 1010 until 1802, it was the political centre of an independent Vietnam with a few brief interruptions.

Today, many historical and cultural monuments are still remained in Hanoi, including more than 600 pagodas and temples, and recently ancient dynaties’ Royal Citadel has been discovered. Hanoi has the most beautiful old achitecture with many fantastic lakes, tree-covered avenues and old Square which has lived over 100 years.

Hanoi has become one of the most charimg, attractive city in Asian region. While the peaceful and low pace of lifestyle is still being preserved, a new and more dynamic life is becoming clearer at every single street conner with the apperance of more new wards and skyscrapers.

Vietnam Monetary Unit is the dong, The popular foreign currencies can be exchanegd in Vietcombank and other banking branches., ANZ bank, Citibank, Indovinabank and other banks. The current exchage rate is 1USD=16100 vnd.  Most of  Credit cards are excepted : Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Dines Club, JCB) and almost all of traveller’s cheque are in use. The ATM system is used widely and often limited 2,000,000 vnd/ transaction and 10,000,000 vnd/ day.
